Meet Singh Swarnjit
Singh Swarnjit is a businessman, community leader, husband, father, and proud Democrat. He is running to be the next Mayor of Norwich, CT—a city that has embraced his family with open arms. After his family fled the 1984 Sikh Genocide, Singh arrived in the United States in 2007 seeking the promise of the American Dream and freedom from the threat of violent persecution.
Through hard work and determination, Singh has come to embody that Dream. He’s a successful real estate developer and for twelve years owned the Norwichtown Shell gas station in Norwich. As someone who has been welcomed by America, Singh believes deeply that we must give back to our nation. He knows that our freedoms must continue to be protected from violent extremism.
His family has always given back, and he is proud to follow in his father's and grandfather's footsteps, a long line of public servants who raised Singh to believe in the importance of being there for your neighbors.
Singh is driven every day to deliver for us—to improve Norwich and fight for our families. He currently serves as a member of the City Council, has served on the Norwich Board of Education, the Commission on the City Plan, the Inland Wetland Commission, the Norwich Area Clergy Association, and as Director of the Norwich Community Development Corporation.
Singh married his wife, Guntas, in 2009. They have two beautiful daughters, the older of which is a proud Norwich Public Schools student. They currently reside in the Norwichtown neighborhood of the Rose City. As our next mayor, Singh will put his deep connections to our community and business skills to work building a brighter, more prosperous future for every Norwich resident.
